Border Security An Open Discussion

Oh the border security! Aren’t we all hot under collars about this topic? We can go ahead, but not lose our cool. Navigate to the next page for additional content.

The word border security often brings to mind tall walls, fences and tough policies. But border security involves more than that.

Why does border security matter? Uninvited Guests can cause issues. We are talking about serious matters, such as drug trafficking and disease spreading across borders. When we pay attention to who is moving around, we can sleep easier at night.

But it is not only about keeping people away. It can also bring up environmental and moral issues.

If we were to go high-tech, would that be a good idea? Drones hovering above places where humans can’t reach, or fancy gadgets checking each person’s identity? Circuits win here over code and human flesh.

Keep in mind that not everyone crosses the border looking for trouble. Most people do so in order to escape violence and find a new home. In what way can we balance our compassion with safety, keeping the doors as wide as they can be? Use caution when pouring maple syrup on pancakes.

It is important to remember that no nation (except for the real ones) has a “island”. Therefore, going at it alone will not be effective. The power of working with your neighbor in this ongoing battle is immense.

In the end, improving border security does not only mean fencing and spy gear. You need to use smart strategies to consider the reasons people are trying to get through your door.

It takes patience, creativity and humor to overcome this monster. Remember, tackling this beast requires patience, creativity, and maybe a dash of humor because sometimes you’ve got to laugh to keep from crying–or walking a tightrope while juggling flaming torches…in a windstorm…blindfolded. Easy peasy. You’re on your way to smoother seas!
